Entrepreneurship Development

The objective of the Programme is to identify persons with entrepreneurial quality, to motivate them and to train them through a structured training course so as to enable them to set up their tiny and small scale industrial ventures with the assistance available from different agencies.

World Trade Organisation

World Trade Agreements and negotiations will have a direct impact on all economic activities including the development and promotion of the small scale sector.

MSME-DO has created a WTO Cell to coordinate the latest developments in regard to WTO and to create awareness so as to make the sector ready to face the challenge of WTO.

Management Training Programmes

Objective:
The basic objective of the Management Development Programme is to improve the productivity/profitability of existing entrepreneurs by upgrading their managerial decision making capabilities and providing them an insight in the latest developments in the area of industrial management, marketing management, financial management, inventory control, human resource development, information technology, and e- commerce, etc. to make them aware about emerging practices in the field of industrial management. Keeping in view the heterogeneity of their academic awareness the need for the inputs of scientific management various from place to place and person to person. Hence the orientation to management principals and practices becomes necessary.

Year of launching:
Since inception of MSME-DO in early 50s.

Methodology:
These programmes are conducted through SISIís in different parts of the country regularly every year Supervisor and owner Cum-manager level functionaries of Small Scale industries are eligible for such courses. A few young prospective entrepreneurs or potential employees of MSMEs are also inducted on selective basis.

Mode of availing the Scheme:
Participation is invited through advertisement in newspapers and in collaboration with local Industry Association DICs. Participants thus selected undergo Management Development programmes (Two Weeks Part-time or one-Week Full time) covering subject viz. Industrial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Export Management & Documentation, Materials Management, Information Technology etc. Specific need-based programmes are also designed.

Motivation Campaign

Objective:
The objective is to identify and motivate traditional/non-traditional entrepreneurs having potential for setting up SSIs for self-employment and to lead them towards self-employment

Year of launching:
1970.

Methodology:
1-2 days Motivational Campaigns are conducted through SISIs in different regions of their state wherein unemployed youth and other type of potential entrepreneurs are invited through Industries Associations active NGOs and States Industries Deptt. etc. to participate in an Awareness camp for information on self-employment schemes and assistance available from different agencies. The interested youth is given guidance & assistance on the spot or during their follow up visits to different agencies or through Entrepreneurs Development Training Courses.

Mode of availing the Scheme:
In the motivation campaigns, SISIs with the co-operation of District Industries Centre/other State Govt. Industrial Development agencies, Banks/State Financial Corporation/other Financial Institutions apprise the potential entrepreneurs about the process of starting industries, feasible/viable projects in the area, incentive/facilities provided by Centre/State Govt. Agencies, Marketing & Financial Support available for the SmallScale Industries. The interested motivated entrepreneurs undergo Entrepreneurship Development programme.

Skill Development Programmes

Objective:
The basic objective of the Skill Development Training Programmes is to train unskilled and semi-skilled workers employed in the small scale industrial units for upgrading their technical skills and knowledge.

Year of Launching:
Since inception of MSME-DO.

Methodology:
These programmes are conducted through SISIs in their workshops in different parts of the country regularly every year. Skilled and semi-skilled workers employed in small scale industrial units are selected for such courses. However, some fresh educated unemployed youths are also selected for learning the skills of various trades so that they may be able to find out some employment opportunities or may start their own ventures.

Mode of availing the Scheme:
Participation is invited through advertisements/local Industrial Associations/DICs. Participants thus selected undergo Skill Development Programmes (three months to six months duration) covering trades viz: Turner, Fitter, Machinist, Welding Shop Practice, Electric Shop Practice, Scientific Glass Blowing, Carpentry (Wood working), Tools & Die Making, Electroplating & Powder Coating, Heat Treatment, Lens Grinding, Screen Printing, Electric Motor winding, Servicing & Repair of Two Wheelers, Book Binding, Tailoring, Cane ware and Sheet-metal Components.

Initiatives for Environment Control

The scheme for promotion, development and adoption of clean technologies including waste reuse and recycling formulated earlier for small scale industries is being continued.

A project on Waste Minimisation in Small Scale Industries has been launched with the National Productivity Council as a nodal agency under the World Bank assisted industrial pollution prevention project.

The method of granting consent under water and air pollution to SSI units has been simplified. Except for 17 critically polluting sectors.
