The industrial development
across the country has not been uniform. Due various reasons, certain parts
of every state are industrially well developed ; Other portions remain
backward. In order to remove the anomalies arising out of these unbalanced
development, Central and State Governments have been taking various steps
to promote these backward areas.
One such activity is declairing
either a Union Territory, District or Taluk as backward and provide various
incentives like investment subsidy, sales tax exemption, etc., for units
set up in these areas. Another has been development of industrial estates
and related infrastructure in these areas.
